County Marshal DEPARTMENT:
Commissioner's Office, Haralson County JOB
Summary:
This position is responsible for enforcing county ordinances.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Patrols the county to detect sign, nuisance, building, and other county code violations.
Enforces the laws of the United States, The State of Georgia and Ordinances of Haralson County.
Conducts misdemeanor investigations; makes arrests and completes reports.
Reports road safety hazards to the Road Department.
Collects and preserves evidence at crime scenes.
Ensures case files are organized and complete before submitting to district attorney; ensures all witnesses are subpoenaed for court cases.
Places persons arrested in custody and transports to the county jail; completes formal booking procedures as required; assists in application of bail within department regulations; assists in transfer to other jurisdictional agencies as required.
Testifies in district, circuit, and federal court and before grand jury as required; answering questions.
Monitors and issues citations for county dumpster violations.
Monitors and issues citations for building violations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
Knowledge of local ordinances and state laws.
Knowledge of law enforcement procedures.
Knowledge of the streets and geography of the county.
Skill in driving.
Skill in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
The Commissioner assigns work in term of general instructions.
Completed work is reviewed for the nature and propriety of the final results.

These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY:
The work consists of related law enforcement duties.
SCOPE AND EFFECT:
The purpose of this position is to enforce local ordinances.
Successful performance helps ensure the successful prosecution of ordinance violations and affects the image of the county.
PERSONAL CONTACTS:
Contacts are typically with other county employees, local law enforcement agency representatives, and the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Contacts are typically give or exchange information and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is typically performed while driving a vehicle, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stopping.
The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed in an office, automobile, and outdoors.
The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional inclement weather.
The work requires the use of protective devices.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILTY:
This position has functional supervision over part-time subordinate personnel.
MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Possession of a valid Georgia Peace Officers Standard and Training Council's certification as a law enforcement officer.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Must be Chief Certified by the Georgia Chiefs Association or be able to obtain Certification within 120 days of hire.
